In January of 2017 I joined the Visual Computing Group of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath as a temporary Teaching Fellow. After a couple of years the role became permanent. Around the same time, all us Teaching Fellows were re-branded Lecturer (Teaching). I teach a range of visual computing and data science courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I’m also now a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Prior to joining the university, I spent twenty years in industry with a focus on high-performance, embedded processor design in GPUs and wireless communication. I’ve mostly worked for start-ups at various stages from founding to going public. And I really preferred the Teaching Fellow title as it was a more accurate label…
